Stars unite for tsunami relief

One of the biggest fundraising concerts ever witnessed in the UK took place on Saturday night (Jan. 22), raising over £1.2m ($2.5m) for tsunami aid charities.

The concert is one of the biggest charity concerts to be held in the UK since the legendary Live Aid event in July 1985.

Organised in less than three weeks, the seven-hour concert featured performances from many British stars including Eric Clapton (pictured).

With over 60,000 people attending the event, held at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium, and millions watching on TV and via a live online broadcast, organisers said the response had been 'phenomenal'.

After a rousing headline slot from local heros the Manic Street Preachers, Eric Clapton and Jools Holland were joined by many of the day's acts for a collaborative rendition of 'Shake, Rattle and Roll' while the final total amount raised - £1,248,963 - was flashed up on the giant video screens.
