Bono nominated for Nobel Prize

For the second time in two years, Bono is up for the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize, according to NMC. Reuters reports that the U2 singer is one of at least 165 Nobel Peace Prize nominees including Pope John Paul, former Secretary of State Colin Powell and Indian sitar master (and Norah Jones' father) Ravi Shankar.

Also 29 organizations have been nominated for the 2005 prize. Among the groups nominated are those helping tsunami victims in South Asia, including Oxfam and Save The Children.

Bono was previously nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003 for his philanthropic efforts. He is a longtime advocate of AIDS awareness and elimination of Third World Debt.

Nobel Peace Prize candidates are supposed to remain secret, but sometimes their names get leaked to the press by the people who nominate them. In October, an official list of nominees will be announced to the public, and the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize will be awarded December 10.
