Bono pays tribute to Pope

Pope John Paul II -who died at the weekend- was a great show man and a great communicator of ideas, U2's Bono said in a statement on Sunday.

U2's own front man also added that the Pope was the "best front man" the Roman Catholic Church ever had.

The Pope and Bono were both nominated for this year's Nobel Peace Prize and campaigned together to end world debt. The two men met and campaigned along with other music stars, aid workers and economists, in 1999 as the Pope campaigned for rich nations to cancel the debt of the world's poorest countries.
