Bob Geldof announces Live Aid follow-up
Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, the organisers of Live Aid in 1985 which turned out to be the biggest rock concert in history, confirmed on Thursday night that they are planning a follow-up to coincide with the G8 summit at Gleneagles. Geldof and Ure were keen to emphasise that the event should not be compared to the original. "I can say there's never going to be a Live Aid II" said Ure.
The announcement was made at the Ivor Novello Awards ceremony in London where the pair received an award for the best selling UK single with last year's Do They Know It's Christmas by Band Aid 20. Sting, who presented the award, said he had already agreed to take part in the Live Aid follow-up.
U2 were presented with the International Hit Of The Year award for "Vertigo", Mick Jagger and Keith Richards received a Special Award For Songwriting, Queen walked away with the Outstanding Song Collection award and Franz Ferdinand won the Best Contemporary Song category with "Take Me Out".
