Coldplay internet album leak
Coldplay's new album "X & Y", which was released June 1 in Japan, has been leaked onto the internet ahead of its June 6 release in Europe. The band's latest and third album appeared on a file-sharing site Monday May 30 allowing fans to freely download the music one week before its eagerly anticipated release. A spokeswoman for EMI commented on the leak, "We've had an amazing success with stopping the leaking. It is a testament to the pre-release protection we put in place to have an album of this profile kept secure until a day before its commercial release in Japan. No other album has come that that close to commercial release before it has become available".
EMI controversially never released "X & Y" promo copies to the media but instead invited critics to listen to the album in various locations trying to stop early unofficial distribution of the album. They clearly failed.
Coldplay's first UK single from "X & Y" was beaten to the top of the UK singles charts by a mobile cellphone ringtone.
