Coldplay's Chris Martin talks

The members of Coldplay say it was important for them to find new sonic territories to explore on their new album, X&Y. So where did they look? Frontman Chris Martin told us that bass player Guy Berryman helped steer the quartet in an electronic direction:

They came really from our bass player, Guy, who's, like, a technophile. You know, he just got us into all these crazy sounds and everything. And also we started listening to a lot of Talking Heads and things, weird percussion and anything produced by Brian Eno. Those are the main influences, I'd say."

X&Y has hit number one in 28 countries since its release two weeks ago.

Coldplay continues its European tour on Wednesday, June 22 in Dublin, Ireland. The group will play the Live 8 show on July 2nd in London's Hyde Park, and kicks off its North American tour in Toronto on August 2, 2005.
