Deep Purple and Motley Crue for Live 8

Deep Purple, Guess Who leaders Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings, and Motley Crue are among the acts named to play the Canadian edition of Live 8. The show will take place July 2nd in Park Place in Barrie, Ontario, and it will feature a decidedly Canadian lineup. Along with the Bachman Cummings Band, fellow countrymen and -women on the bill include Bryan Adams, Tom Cochrane, Barenaked Ladies, Bruce Cockburn, Gordon Lightfoot, and Our Lady Peace. In fact, the Crue and Deep Purple are about the only non-Canadians that have been announced.

The goal of the Live 8 concerts - which will also take place in Philadelphia; Berlin, Germany; Paris, France; Rome, Italy; Tokyo, Japan; Johannesburg, South Africa; and Edinburgh, Scotland - is to get the leaders of the G8 nations to forgive all Third World debt and to "make poverty history."
