Pink Floyd plans for Live 8 revealed

The details of Pink Floyd's reunion at the London Live 8 show on Saturday (July 2, 2005) are leaking out. Organizer Bob Geldof said at a press conference in Italy last week that the reunited Floyd will be the next-to-last act in Hyde Park, and that they'll do four songs in their 15 minutes onstage. However, the UK newspaper The Sunday Times quoted Geldof as saying Pink Floyd will play "Breathe" from The Dark Side Of The Moon, "Comfortably Numb" from The Wall, and the title track from Wish You Were Here. It will be the first time singer-bassist Roger Waters performs with singer-guitarist David Gilmour, keyboardist Rick Wright, and drummer Nick Mason since 1981.

The Sunday Times also reported that Sting had been rehearsing a duet with Madonna for the Hyde Park show, but that idea has been dropped. Instead, he'll do the Police hit "Every Breath You Take" with puppets of G8 leaders including US President George Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair. The figures are from the UK's Splitting Image, which is probably best-known outside Britain for the puppets Genesis used in the video for their 1986 hit "Land Of Confusion."

Sting has also updated the lyrics to the song so that the G8 leaders get the message. Instead of the original "I'll be watching you," the song now includes the line "We'll be watching you."
