Soul Asylum bassist dead
Soul Asylum bassist Karl Mueller died in Minneapolis on Friday June 17, 2005 of throat cancer reports the city's Star-Tribune. Mueller, who was 41, was scheduled to have surgery on the day he died. His illness had been in remission since last October, and friends had hoped that he had come through the worst of the disease. Mueller co-founded Soul Asylum in 1984 with frontman Dave Pirner, guitarist Dan Murphy and drummer Grant Young. The group's sixth album, 1992's Grave Dancers Union, was its commercial breakthrough, featuring the hit singles "Runaway Train," "Black Gold" and "Somebody To Shove."
Soul Asylum's last studio album was 1998's Candy From A Stranger. A concert recording, After The Flood: Live From The Grand Forks Prom June 28, 1998, came out in 2004.
