The Who to play Live 8
Bob Geldof, the organiser of Live 8, mentioned on Friday night that The Who will be performing at Hyde Park on July 2 at the London-leg of Live 8.Geldof, who was a guest on BBC's "Friday Night with Jonathan Ross" show, also commented on the fact that Status Quo were not announced in the lineup and did not rule out a performance by them although they have not been invited yet. He said that if the demand by the public is there, they will be included in the lineup that also features U2, Paul McCartney, Sting, Velvet Revolver and Coldplay.
Live Aid in 1985, regarded by many as the biggest rock event in history, featured Queen, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Black Sabbath with Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Bob Dylan, Keith Richards, Ron Wood, Mick Jagger, U2, Sting, Dire Straits, The Who, the Beach Boys, Status Quo, Bryan Adams, David Bowie and Neil Young among others.
