David Gilmour: Donate all profits
Pink Floyd are handing over all profits made on the back of Live 8 to charity and are urging other performers and record companies to do the same. Album sales of artists who performed in Live 8 have rocketed as a result of their performance during the global event.
"Though the main objective has been to raise consciousness and put pressure on the G8 leaders, I will not profit from the concert," Pink Floyd's David Gilmour said in a statement. " This is money that should be used to save lives."
According to music retailer HMV, Pink Floyd's "Best of" album "Echoes" was flying off the shelves with sales going up by an astonishing 1,343 per cent. Sales of albums by The Who rose by 863 per cent. Other artists were rewarded with a more modest leap in sales.
