Doors legal fight over
John Densmore is happy to have won his court case against Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger, but he's also glad it's over. Densmore, along with the estates of Jim Morrison and his widow, Pamela Courson, filed suit over the use of the name Doors in Krieger's and Manzarek's current band, the Doors Of The 21st Century (D21C), and a judge ruled against the new group's use of the name. Densmore told us that he has mixed emotions about his legal victory: "Of course, it's bittersweet that it came to the point that I had to sue my old bandmates, but I'm pretty happy that after a two-and-a-half-year legal battle, in my opinion, the legacy has been reinstated, as it should be. Jim, Ray, Robby, and John - now, that's the Doors." Densmore also told us that the judge was very clear about what Manzarek and Krieger can and can't do in terms of advertising their band: "They cannot use five letters in their band name -- D-O-O-R-S. And the judge also spelled out that they're founding or former members of the Doors, but the judge did make sure that if they wrote that in their ads, that the word 'Doors,' that it has to be smaller than their names. Which is what they did with the '21st Century' - they made that smaller than the word 'Doors,' which is why I sued them, 'cause it was totally manipulative."
There's been no word from the D21C camp over the end of the lawsuit.
