New McCartney album "for himself"
Paul McCartney announced that he'll release his new album, Chaos And Creation In The Backyard, on September 12, 2005 to coincide with his upcoming US tour. The CD - his 21st studio album since the Beatles' split in 1970 - features 13 new songs with McCartney playing the majority of the instruments. McCartney, who hasn't released an all-new studio set since 2001's Driving Rain, said: "I did not want to rush this album. I think it was worth the wait, though. The music became more interesting over time and I'm really proud of what we did."Among the highlights is a song titled "Jenny Wren," which McCartney describes as, "(the) daughter of 'Blackbird'" - the Beatles' song from their 1968 White Album. He added: "We really made a lot of it up as we went along. I'd try something and if it didn't work I'd try something else until it did. It was like making a go-cart in the backyard."
McCartney told us that these days, he only tries to please himself with his new material:

I think that's a bad idea. I think you got to write for yourself, so that's the way I'm definitely writing now. So I make a point these days of satisfying myself first." The first single, "Fine Line," will be released in the UK on July 21, 2005. No word on whether the song will also be issued as the first single in the US.
Coincidentally, the album's release date - September 12th - is also the 28th birthday of McCartney's son James.
McCartney kicks off his upcoming tour on September 16, 2005 in Miami at the American Airlines Arena.
