Queen, REM postpone London shows
Both Queen + Paul Rodgers and REM were scheduled to play in Hyde Park in London this weekend, but the shows have been postponed due to Thursday's bombings. Queen + Rodgers were supposed to play on Friday, July 8, 2005, while REM were scheduled for Saturday, July 9, 2005. Both concerts have been pushed back a week - Queen + Paul Rodgers to next Friday July 15, 2005, and REM to next Saturday July 16, 2005.Queen guitarist Brian May wrote yesterday on his official brianmay.com website, "We're all devastated to wake up and see the appalling bombing in London. Our hearts go out to all those innocents so cruelly attacked."
REM manager Bertis Downs expressed similar feelings on behalf of the band at the official remhq.com website.
In related news, the Queen musical We Will Rock You that's played to sold-out houses in London for four years was postponed on Thursday night. REM's other weekend shows - Friday night in Ipswich, England, and Sunday night in Cardiff, Wales - are unaffected by the London attack.
Modern rockers Sum 41 and Queens Of The Stone Age also had shows cancelled or postponed.
