Scott Weiland drug charges dropped

Velvet Revolver vocalist Scott Weiland has had two-year-old drug charges against him dismissed because he successfully completed his rehab program, reports the Los Angeles Times. A Pasadena, California court commissioner closed the book on Weiland's case on Tuesday (July 12th). Weiland was charged in May of 2003 with possession of heroin and cocaine, facing up to three years in prison, but a California law allowed him to enter treatment in lieu of jail time.

Velvet Revolver wrapped up their recent European tour with a performance at the Live 8 concert in London's Hyde Park on July 2, 2005. The band is currently on a break and may do some recording before launching a run of North American dates on August 11th in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.

The group is also slated to replace Iron Maiden on the last eight dates of Ozzfest 2005, beginning on August 23rd in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Velvet Revolver's current single, "Come On, Come In," is a brand new song taken from the soundtrack to the hit movie, Fantastic Four.
