Clapton no fan of musicians-politicians
Eric Clapton didn't perform at the Live 8 concerts on July 2, 2005 and now we know why - he doesn't believe in that kind of thing. It's not the cause he's against, it's seeing rock stars getting involved in politics that bothers him. He told Germany's Stern magazine that he has "mixed feelings" about people like U2 frontman Bono and Band Aid/Live Aid/Live 8 organizer Bob Geldof. Clapton also said, "I ask myself if musicians ought to act like politicians. They're only musicians." He added he didn't know where musicians got the idea that their opinions were important enough to share with world leaders. His new album Back Home is due next week.
A CD and DVD from the Cream reunion shows in May in London with Clapton, singer-bassist Jack Bruce, and drummer Ginger Baker will be out October 4th. There have been rumors of more reunion shows, possibly in New York at Madison Square Garden, but there hasn't been an official announcement yet.
