Johhnny Van Zant to have throat surgery
Don't expect to see Van Zant's Johnny Van Zant out too much for a while. Doctors at the Vanderbilt Voice Clinic in Nashville have diagnosed him with "acute and chronic inflammation of his vocal cord and development of a large vocal cord polyp," and he needs surgery to remove the growth. The operation will sideline Johnny for at least three months, which means he's had to cancel all the Lynyrd Skynyrd dates through early October. It's unknown what effect Johnny's surgery and recuperation will have on the Van Zant tour that was being planned for late this year and the first part of next year.As of now, the only dates left on the Skynyrd itinerary are December 2nd, 3rd, and 4th at the Las Vegas Hilton.
