Metallica guitarist with string quartet

Metallica lead guitarist Kirk Hammett will perform with string ensemble the Flux Quartet on Thursday, September 15th at the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco, according to MorrisonSeries.org. Hammett and the Quartet will collaborate on the world premiere of "SAS," a piece for string quartet and improvised electric guitar written by Flux violinist Thomas Chiu. The event is part of the Morrison Artist Series, which has been presenting free chamber music for audiences in California's Bay Area for 50 years.

Metallica have been keeping a relatively low profile since completing their world tour in late 2004. The band is expected to begin working on a new album sometime before the end of this year.
