Robert Plant music helps West Africa

Robert Plant is glad that proceeds from some live music he's just released are going to help African tribesmen. The official robertplant.com website has a four-song live EP that he recorded with his band the Strange Sensation on June 9th in Paris, and money from the sales goes to the Turtle Will organization, which helps people in Ethiopia, Mali, and Niger. Plant told Arizona's East Valley News, "I'm very, very pleased to contribute in some form or another. It's all about, I think, increasing awareness, breaking away from the usual sort of news reel approach to human disasters, if you like - illuminating and exposing these conditions from a different angle."

He added, "People are taking (the issues affecting African people) very seriously. I mean, you have problems in your country, we have problems in ours. But the thing is that on a daily basis in West Africa, the situation is spiraling into greater suffering...it was just so evident that there was so much helplessness and the governments were so poor in the first place, the countries are so needy and the people are very, very needy."

Robert Plant And The Strange Sensation Live In Paris is available on CD or as a digital download, and both cost $5. It features Led Zeppelin's "When The Levee Breaks," as well as three songs from his new studio album Mighty Rearranger.

The former Led Zeppelin frontman and his current band have a few more shows in Europe, then they return to North America beginning September 10th in Ottawa, Ontario.
