Rolling Stones: George W full of shit

On their new album A Bigger Bang, the Rolling Stones are diving into the kind of political waters they usually avoid. They've recorded a song called "Sweet Neo Con" that seemingly attacks the current leadership in Washington, DC, with lines like, "You call yourself a Christian, I call you a hypocrite/You call yourself a patriot, well I think you're full of shit." Lead singer Mick Jagger intended the song to be taken exactly the way it sounds. He told Newsweek, "It is direct. (Singer-guitarist) Keith (Richards) said, 'It's not really metaphorical.' I think he's a bit worried because he lives in the US. But I don't."

Also in the article, Richards and Jagger insist that they're not just going through the motions with their new album and world tour. Richards said, "I could see why some people may think we're phoning it in after all this time. But playing the music we do, and playing it with these guys, 'Jumpin' Jack Flash' can be a new song to me every night. I mean, we don't need to do it to feed our families. We don't need to do it to prove anything. And nobody wants to be the first one to get off a moving bus. You end up in the dust." He added, "It's that fascination with music that is still the core of the band. (Drummer) Charlie (Watts) sits around and talks about this fantastic (John) Coltrane solo. Thank God, it's the one thing that hasn't left us. You can get disillusioned with the state of the world, but the music's still OK."

Jagger said, "Sometimes you might feel, 'Here we go again.' Feel a little cynical about it. But you get out there and it takes over."

The Stones hit the road for their A Bigger Bang world tour on August 21st in Boston. The A Bigger Bang album comes out September 6th.
