Sammy Hagar previews new song
Sammy Hagar previewed a song destined for his next album at the opening show of his brief The Tequila Made Me Do It tour on Saturday (August 6th) at the DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan. Hagar and his band, the Waboritas, did a party anthem called "The Way We Live," as well as "Let Me Take You There," Hagar's update of the Staples Singers' hit "I'll Take You There" which he released online earlier this year. Hagar also played two songs he claimed he's never done live - "Girl Gets Around" from the Footloose soundtrack, and the theme song to the film Fast Times At Ridgemont High - as well as three numbers from his days in Van Halen, "Top Of The World," "Runaround," and a guitar-led rendition of "Right Now."Saturday's show closed with a half-hour set by the reunited Montrose, who will also perform with Hagar on Saturday (August 13th) in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, and Sunday (August 14th) in Concord, California.
The tour-opener was also the prototype for the kind of concerts Hagar hopes to present in the future. Gates opened at 3 p.m. for a pre-show festival that included beach volleyball, tanning contests, a "Sammyoke" karaoke competition, and a mariachi band.
Hagar hopes to begin work on a new album later this year for release in 2006.
Hagar next performs on Tuesday, August 9th in Phoenix.
