Velvet Revolver name new drummer
Velvet Revolver have named Brian Tichy as the replacement for drummer Matt Sorum on six or possibly seven dates on Velvet Revolver's upcoming August tour, according to Blabbermouth.net. Sorum fractured his hand in a boating accident and is currently undergoing physical therapy. The group will resume its Electric Wonderland Show trek on August 11th in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Sorum plans to rejoin the group on the first show of its OzzFest stint, which begins on August 23rd in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but may possibly return one show earlier, on an August 21st headlining gig in Tucson, Arizona. Tichy has previously played with Ozzy Osbourne, Black Label Society and Slash's Snakepit.
Meanwhile, Velvet Revolver vocalist Scott Weiland recently spoke with Metal Edge magazine about the band's upcoming seven OzzFest shows, in which the group will replace Iron Maiden. Weiland said Velvet Revolver decided to play OzzFest because "I think the basic thought process was that, when the offer came to us, after doing the rest of our touring for the rest of the year, it would be a good idea to play for a basic, real, hard rock audience that we haven't played to yet."
When asked what kind of response he expects from the more metal-oriented OzzFest audience, Weiland responded, "I don't know. I just don't have the same willingness to, as they say, bend like a willow in the wind, like I may have when I was younger. I'm kind of set in my ways, and I am what I am. This band is really a rock 'n' roll band...it's definitely not metal."
