2006 - The year of Chinese Democracy?

Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose reportedly told a fan in Malibu, California that the group's long-delayed new album, Chinese Democracy, will arrive in early 2006. According to the Canyon News, the vocalist also told the same person that the group is hoping to put a new song on the soundtrack of the upcoming movie, The Da Vinci Code. Guns N' Roses' last new tune, 1999's "Oh My God," was also featured on a soundtrack, for the Arnold Schwarzenegger thriller End Of Days.

The Da Vinci Code, due out next summer, is based on the massive and controversial best-seller by Dan Brown. The film stars Tom Hanks and is being directed by Ron Howard.

Guns N' Roses' last studio album, a collection of cover tunes called The Spaghetti Incident?, was released in 1993.

In the ensuing 12 years, Axl Rose and the band have gone through an assortment of producers and lineup changes while working on Chinese Democracy. A 2002 tour was aborted after just a few shows in North America.

A GNR greatest hits compilation issued in 2004 has sold more than two million copies.
