Jimmy Page named honorary Brazilian

Legendary Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page has been named an honorary citizen of Brazil for his charitable work in the country. The honor was presented to him last week at Casa Jimmy, a shelter he founded outside Rio De Janeiro that cares for street children and pregnant teenagers, and which has served over 300 people since it opened in 1999. He said, "The greatest satisfaction is not the decoration. It is knowing that I am able to help someone who needs help." The guitarist was moved to action after visiting Rio in 1994 and seeing rampant violence and drug use.

Page and his wife Jimena have been active for years in raising money for The ABC (Action For Brazil's Children) Trust and the Task Brazil Trust, both of which help Brazilian street children.

Earlier this year, Page was given the title Officer Of The Order Of The British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for his charity work.
