New John Lennon interview surfaces
A rare 1975 John Lennon interview has been unearthed in which the gifted musician lambastes what most would deem complimentary reviews and is now available for downloading online. Britain's Female First published an excerpt from the 25-minute interview in which Lennon lashed out at critics who proclaimed his 1971 Imagine album as his solo masterpiece, saying, "How can somebody with any sanity in their mind pin down Imagine and decide it will be the best album I will ever make? I'm 34 and, apart from acts of God, will be around for another 60 years or whatever." Lennon admitted that, "I get hurt if people just attack me personally like some reviewers do." The interview is available for download for around $5 at the audioville.co.uk website. The interview, which was taped for Capitol Radio shortly after Lennon reunited with wife Yoko Ono after their 14-month separation, features Lennon talking about his ongoing problems with the U.S. government while trying to remain in the country, the rest of the former Beatles, and his work with legendary "Wall Of Sound" producer Phil Spector.
Ronnie Spector, the former lead singer of the Ronettes, first met Lennon in 1964 and was married to Phil Spector the entire time he produced Lennon -- including the Imagine album. She told us that, in her opinion, Lennon's talent was one of a kind: "He was one great songwriter, lyricist. There will never be anyone like him, and I was right because I've waited all these years, you know, and there's never been another John Lennon."
