Praise for Bob Dylan documentary
The documentary Bob Dylan: No Direction Home premiered on Monday, September 26th, on BBC as well as on PBS affiliates around America. Most are airing it in two parts, concluding on Tuesday, September 27th, with repeat airings on Saturday (October 1st). The Band's Robbie Robertson, who backed Dylan in the mid-'60s and mid-'70s and has worked with director Martin Scorsese many times, told us that he loves the film: "Well, I think it's the best thing ever done on Bob, and I think Marty did an absolutely brilliant job." No Direction Home features footage of Dylan's 1966 European tour, on which he was backed by Robertson and other musicians who eventually became the Band.
The documentary was released two weeks ago on DVD, with bonuses that include seven full-length Dylan performances from 1963 to 1966.
Scorsese also directed the Band's 1978 film The Last Waltz.
The director supervised the new box set called The Band: A Musical History, which comes out today. The compilation features five CDs, a DVD, 37 unreleased songs, and a 108-page hardbound book.
