U2 and Coldplay: Mutual respect

Chris Martin and the other members of Coldplay have made no bones over the years about their admiration for U2. And the Irish band's guitarist, The Edge, told us that the feeling is reciprocated:

I don't think they sound that like us, but I, occasionally I hear a little influence here and there, but it's always something that I feel kind of proud about, that they enjoy what we do and have done and they're making some amazing music."

Coldplay followed U2 on the bill at the Live 8 show in London on July 2nd, after U2 opened the show in Hyde Park.

Coldplay perform tonight (Wednesday, September 28th) in Atlanta, Georgia. U2 resume their Vertigo world tour on Monday (October 3rd) in Boston, Massachusetts.
