Franz Ferdinand: New album is different

Franz Ferdinand frontman Alex Kapranos says it was daunting to follow up the success of the Scottish group's 2004 self-titled debut with its sophomore album, You Could Have It So Much Better. Kapranos told us that's mostly because the quartet wanted to show growth on its successor:

So there were some songs that we wanted to take a bit more of a chance on, try things we hadn't done before, like... At the same time retain the essence of the band, the fact that it's the same four people. I think a radical reinvention would have some how seemed a little contrived."

Franz Ferdinand's debut has sold more than three million copies worldwide.

You Could Have It So Much Better came out on October 4th and is expected to debut high on the Billboard Top 200 chart later today (Wednesday, October 12th).

The first single from the album is "Do You Want To."

A DualDisc version of the album includes the "Do You Want To" video, an interview with the band, a photo gallery, and footage from the recording sessions.

Franz Ferdinand perform on Friday (October 14th) in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania.
