Osbournes charity single released
A charity single organized by Sharon Osbourne to raise money for victims of last year's Asian tsunami and the more recent Hurricane Katrina was released yesterday (Tuesday, October 18th). The track, a cover of Eric Clapton's "Tears In Heaven," features vocals from Ozzy Osbourne, daughter Kelly Osbourne, Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland, Elton John, Institute's Gavin Rossdale, Gwen Stefani, Rod Stewart, Josh Groban, Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, Mary J. Blige and others, with musical backing by Velvet Revolver. The song can be downloaded at iTunes for 99 cents. All proceeds from the track go to Save The Children. Money from US sales will go toward Katrina relief efforts, while international funds will be directed to tsunami recovery.
Sharon initially began assembling the project in January, following last December's catastrophic tsunami. She has said that she wants to travel to every affected country to see how the money raised by the song is being spent.
In a statement, Sharon Osbourne said, "The magnitude of these natural disasters surpasses anything we've seen in our lifetime. With this single and other relief efforts, our intent is to keep these tragedies at the forefront of everyone's minds. We must not forget and do all we can to help these people rebuild their lives."
