Paul McCartney never really left Liverpool

Paul McCartney says that, in his mind, he's never really left his hometown of Liverpool. McCartney, whose latest CD, Chaos And Creation In The Backyard, features a photo of him in his Liverpool backyard from the summer of 1962, told theglobeandmail.com, "I've left (Liverpool) physically, but I don't want to leave. I like roots. I go back every year, and there's always a recharging of batteries, and also a reminding yourself of who you are. Because, at my scale of things, some people notoriously forget. I don't think that's a clever idea."

The Beatles moved from Liverpool to London in 1963. They officially returned to the city in July 1964 for the premiere of their A Hard Day's Night movie.

McCartney's 1973 TV special, titled James Paul McCartney, featured interviews and footage of Liverpudlians singing a medley of Beatles hits.

One of the show's highlights featured McCartney and Wings, along with McCartney's father Jim and dozens of relatives engaging in a drunken sing-along at a local Liverpool pub.

In 1984 ceremony, Macca was officially awarded the "Key To Liverpool."

In 1990, when he returned to perform in Liverpool for the first time in over ten years, he paid tribute to his former partner John Lennon by playing a medley of three of his songs - "Strawberry Fields Forever," "Help!" and "Give Peace A Chance."

Macca's tour carries on with two shows on October 14th and 15th (Friday and Saturday) in Auburn Mills, Detroit at the Palace Of Auburn Hills.
