Roger Daltrey "not too old to rock"
After being in a band with both Pete Townshend and Keith Moon - the Who's Roger Daltrey is no stranger to dealing with temperamental musicians. The singer recalled to Britain's Sunday Mail that during the 1975 filming of the Who's film Tommy - in which he played the starring role - he almost had to take over Elton John's role of the Pinball Wizard, as well. Daltrey revealed that, "Elton had a bit of a 'moment' at rehearsals and no one knew if he'd actually turn up. I was ready to jump in to sing 'Pinball Wizard' if he hadn't appeared. The night before (shooting the scene), I had to sit pretending I was playing piano and singing in his key."On November 8th, the Who will be releasing a three-DVD set of their live performances of their Tommy and Quadrophenia rock operas, from 1989 and 1996, respectively.
Daltrey and Pete Townshend are meeting up next February to map out plans for the Who's first new studio album since 1982's It's Hard. He told us that performing has nothing to do with age and everything to do with soul:
