Sammy Hagar ready for birthday bash

Sammy Hagar holds his annual Birthday Bash on Thursday, October 13th, at his Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Hagar, who turns 58, will be joined by his band, the Waboritas, Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum, former Pantera and Damageplan drummer Vinnie Paul, Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony and some promised "surprise celebrity guests." Hagar told us that he plans to play a long time and fill the set list with whatever songs he feels like:

A band like Van Halen, it's all about the songs and the individual musicianship. Sammy Hagar's band, it's not about none of that. It's about the fun, the party, the event, the evening, and if we decide to play Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, ZZ Top songs all night, the fans could give a shit. They're there for the party."

The Birthday Bash is the culmination of a two-week celebration at Cabo Wabo that includes an annual battle of the bands contest, with the winners getting to open tonight's show.

Hagar has opened a second Cabo Wabo Cantina in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

He will also play at the Chet Helms Tribal Stomp on October 30th in San Francisco, California.
