U2 reject support to political fundraisers
Despite what you might have heard elsewhere, the members of U2 aren't publicly backing any politicians while on tour this autumn. A published report on newsmax.com said the band would do a $1000-a-seat fundraiser for the reelection campaign of Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia on Sunday (October 16th). U2 will definitely be there, but the date was booked a while ago as part of the band's Vertigo world tour, not as a fundraiser.According to Jamie Drummond, who's the Executive Director of DATA (Debt AIDS Trade Africa), which was cofounded by Bono, "Throughout the U2 tour, politicians from both sides have been organizing fundraisers at the venues or around specific shows. Neither DATA or Bono are involved in these and they cannot be controlled. The U2 concerts are categorically not fundraisers for any politician - they are rock concerts for fans."
The Irish rockers wrap up their multi-night stand at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Friday (October 14th).
