Van Halen singer replaces Howard Stern

David Lee Roth, the former lead singer of Van Halen, as well as comedians Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Carolla will replace radio shock DJ Howard Stern, it has been announced.

Stern currently hosts the popular and controversial US-syndicated radio program. He is set to join Sirius Satellite Radio in January.

"When we set out to find a replacement for Howard Stern we took the opportunity to cultivate a wide array of talent, from both in and out of the radio industry," Infinity Chief Executive Joel Hollander said in a statement. "With Roth, we've found someone who continues to evolve his career and deliver for his legion of fans."

David Lee Roth, also known as Diamond Dave, rose to prominence in the 1970s Los Angeles rock scene as the lead singer of Van Halen. In 1974 Dave rented his PA system to the brothers Edward and Alex Van Halen, and later joined their rock band as lead vocalist. Dave soon persuaded the brothers to change the band's name from Rat Salade to Van Halen. The rest is history.
