Paul McCartney: "Live 8 a cool day with U2"

New Paul McCartney video footage has been released on the Live8 DVD. The four-disc set includes McCartney's performance of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" with U2, which opened the concert in London's Hyde Park, as well as the former Beatle's set with his own band. McCartney told us he has warm memories of the event:

And, you know, the fun of playing with U2 and then closing it with my own band. It was a really cool day as far as that was concerned."

Macca closed Live 8's London concert with a set of Beatles songs, including "Get Back," a duet with George Michael on "Drive My Car," "Helter Skelter," "The Long And Winding Road," and an all-star finale of "Hey Jude."

The Live 8 DVD also includes performances by Pink Floyd, the Who, U2, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Neil Young, Sting, Madonna, Brian Wilson, REM, Bon Jovi and others.

Put together by Live Aid organizer Bob Geldof, Live8 was a series of concerts held in nine cities around the world on July 2nd to raise awareness of poverty in and promote debt relief for developing nations, particularly in Africa.
