Jimmy Page receives Royal honour
Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page was in London on Wednesday, December 14th, to meet with Queen Elizabeth II. The legendary axeman was at Buckingham Palace to officially receive his Officer Of The Order Of The British Empire (OBE) award, which was first announced back in June. After the ceremony, at which he was honoured for the work he's done over the years to help poor kids in Brazil, he was quoted as saying, "I think when you're faced with a plight that's inescapable, and there's something you can do about it, you hope you can make a difference...The Queen actually said it was very important work and that it was a horrible problem for the street children."His efforts have included the setting-up of a safe house in Rio De Janeiro in 1999 called Casa Jimmy, which has helped more than 300 kids. Page first learned of the problems the children face everyday while on a promotional tour in 1994, and he began working with the UK-based charity Task Brazil Trust when he got home.
In September, Jimmy Page was named an honorary citizen of Brazil at a ceremony at Casa Jimmy.
Page and his wife Jimena are supporters of both Task Brazil Trust and the ABC (Action For Brazil's Children) Trust, which also helps Brazilian street children.
