Kiss memorabilia goes high at auction
Some Kiss fans got themselves a couple of rather pricey holiday gifts over the weekend. Backstage Auctions hosted the "Kiss My Auction" sale of memorabilia from the collections of more than a dozen Kiss insiders, and there was intense bidding on several items. The piece that sold for the highest amount was the original artwork from the 1976 album Rock And Roll Over, which went for $9,954. Also bringing in a lot of money were dollar sign boots worn by singer-bassist Gene Simmons, which sold for $6,238, and one of Simmons's fire-breathing swords from 1978, for $6,043. There was also a lot of action on a towel with some of the stage blood Simmons used at the Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan back in 1979, which finally brought in $2,024.57.Backstage Auctions cofounder Jacques Van Gool said, "The towel was one of the most interesting items to watch in the end, because a few of the bidders fiercely going after the towel had attended that show back in 1979, which for a collector makes the item that much more desirable."
