Metallica get back to studio work
Metallica have posted a six-minute video message at their official web site, in which the band discusses its recent opening gigs for the Rolling Stones and the beginning of songwriting for its ninth studio album. Drummer Lars Ulrich said that it was good for the group to start rehearsing together again after taking most of 2005 off, explaining, "It's been so much fun the last couple of weeks getting back together, getting all creative again for the first time in a couple of years, and hanging with Rob (Trujillo, bassist) and getting him involved in the writing process. It's been a lot of fun, we're all really psyched and going into the holidays with spunky spirit." Ulrich added that opening for the Stones in the San Francisco area, where Metallica are based, helped get the group back into action: "It was fun getting out of the house and playing a couple of shows, getting a little sweat going, and getting up and sharing some metal moments with our San Francisco friends...And it kind of got us kind of back into the mode of being a band again."
Metallica's next studio album is expected to arrive in late 2006.
