Springsteen's Nebraska to be honoured

Bruce Springsteen's 1982 album, Nebraska, will be honored at the New York Guitar Festival 2006, which takes place from January 14th to February 8th in Manhattan. The Nebrska Project will open the festival to recognize the approaching 25th anniversary of the album. Living Colour's Vernon Reid, Meshell Ndegeocello, Michelle Shocked and the Patti Smith Group's Lenny Kaye are among the artists who will perform their own versions of songs from Nebrska at the show. It's not known whether The Boss will attend or participate in the event.

The album, originally recorded onto a cassette as a demo tape, peaked at Number Three on the Billboard Top 200 chart. It's been certified platinum.

In a statement, festival artistic director David Spelman said, "Sometimes a recording artist's demo versions of songs are more brilliant than the final product. Nebraska is one of those moments in music history."

The festival will feature more than 60 guitarists performing 20 shows in seven venues. Details are available at newyorkguitarfestival.org.

The Boss is nominated for five Grammy Awards for his latest solo album, Devils & Dust, including Song of the Year for the title track.
