U2 complete North American tour
U2 have wraped up the North American portion of their Vertigo world tour on Monday, December 19th, in Portland, Oregon. The tour has played 90 sold-out shows to more than three million fans, grossing $260 million. The shows have also won nearly unanimous critical praise, which guitarist The Edge told us reflects the band's adventurous spirit these days: [

When it becomes too easy, I think it just sounds that way, and the easy thing is just so unappealing. I mean, Rock 'n' roll has to have that sense of people really kind of working at the extent of their abilities and urgency. It gives it a certain feeling." The Irish rockers will be off the road until February 15th, when they start a two-show run in Mexico City before heading to Australia and New Zealand in March.
U2 have documented the tour on the new DVD, Vertigo 2005/U2 Live From Chicago.
U2 are nominated for five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Best Rock Album for How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb and Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal for the single, "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own."
