Velvet Revolver planning concept album
Velvet Revolver plan to make their sophomore effort a concept album, according to vocalist Scott Weiland. He said that it's a project he's had in mind for a long time, explaining, "It's something I've been wanting to do since the last (Stone Temple Pilots) album, since (2001's) Shangri-La Dee Da album, and it never was completely realized. You never know until you really completely get there, but it's going in that direction right now."Neither Weiland nor his bandmates have given any hint about what the concept will be, but bassist Duff McKagan said, "This album really has to make a statement."
Velvet Revolver have been writing new songs for months for the disc, which will follow up the band's double platinum 2004 debut, Contraband.
The singer is also working on a solo record, his first since 1998's 12 Bar Blues. He began the project several years ago, but stopped to join Velvet Revolver. Weiland recalled, "I kept on thinking the music (they were sending me) was getting better and better and finally I was just like, '...I think if I join this I can really add something to this and make a real contribution.'"
The band expects to issue its new CD in the spring.
They are playing a handful of dates at the end of this month, including a New Year's Eve (December 31st) gig in Sayreville, New Jersey.
