Foo Fighters drummer goes solo

Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins will release the debut album from his side band, Taylor Hawkins And The Coattail Riders, on March 7th. The self-titled disc will feature him singing lead vocals as well as playing drums and guitar. Hawkins said that he started working on a solo project purely to keep himself busy, explaining, "I'm no good when I have nothing to do. I really wanted to make a record and have a project outside of the Foo Fighters, because we do take breaks. So I had to kind of create another little environment for myself to keep busy and excited."

The drummer has sang lead on two Foo Fighters recordings: a B-side cover of Pink Floyd's "Have A Cigar" (featuring Brian May) and a track called "Cold Day In The Sun" from the band's latest album, In Your Honor.

He recorded most of the Coattail Riders album during the summer of 2004. Former Jane's Addiction bassist Chris Chaney appears on the disc.

Hwkins will take his solo act on the road in both the US and England this spring, where he'll play smaller venues than he usually does with Foo Fighters. He plans to sing and play drums onstage.

Foo Fighters is also planning an early 2006 tour in support of In Your Honor that will focus on the acoustic portion of the two-disc set.
