Foo Fighters expand for acoustic tour

Foo Fighters will expand their onstage lineup from four to seven musicians for the band's upcoming acoustic tour. Joining the main quartet for the trek will be Beck violinist Petra Haden, Everclear touring pianist Rami Jaffee and percussionist Drew Hester from Lisa Marie Presley's band. Haden and Jaffee both contributed to Foo Fighters' 2005 double album, In Your Honor, while Hester produced the debut disc from drummer Taylor Hawkins' side band, Taylor Hawkins And The Coattail Riders, which is due out on March 7th.

The acoustic trek is tentatively slated for May. Although dates and cities have yet to be revealed, Hawkins told us that he's excited about exposing the band's softer side:

Lets (frontman) Dave (Grohl)'s songs breathe, you know, lets people see what an actually great songwriter Dave is, not just loud, blistering guitars and stuff. Even though, you know, I think people have always known he's a really great songwriter, I don't know, you just get a different side, you know what I mean?"

Foo Fighters may also do some more "loud, electric" touring later this year.

Dave Grohl and his wife, Jordyn Blum, are expecting their first child on or around April 10th.

The band and In Your Honor are nominated for five Grammy Awards, including Best Rock Album and Best Rock Song for the track, "Best Of You."
