Pearl Jam photo book on the way

A new book of photography centered around Pearl Jam will be released this spring, according to Billboard. The book, titled 5x1: Pearl Jam Through the Eye of Lance Mercer, will be available this spring through Pearl Jam's official website. Mercer and famed Seattle photographer Charles Peterson published an earlier book in 1998, called Place/Date, and many shots that did not make that earlier collection will be seen in the new one.

Mercer said he'd been "sitting on an archive of images for quite a long time, and was having coffee with (bassist) Jeff (Ament). We were talking about (how) I have all these Pearl Jam images that nobody's ever seen, like all this behind-the-scenes stuff."

Mercer added that the new book is much more "personal" than Place/Date, which was based more around live images.

The band is nearing completion on its eighth studio album, with its release tentatively planned for late spring.
