Aerosmith guitarist up for a Grammy
Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry will be at the Grammy Awards on Wednesday, February 8th, as both a performer and a nominee. He and Steven Tyler will take part in the all-star salute to Sly & the Family Stone, and Perry is also in the running for the Best Rock Instrumental Performance trophy for the song "Mercy" from his self-titled solo album. The Grammys air on CBS in America at 8 p.m. ET/PT.Perry told us that he couldn't have finished his album if Aerosmith hadn't taken a break that began in the summer of 2004 and ended this past fall: "I think it would have taken another couplea years for it to come out because I was working on this in dribs and drabs, and finishing things off part-time over the course of the, the last few years, and I think if I hadn't had this time off...I think it was a good body of work, but I think that by having the time off, I was able to really focus -- at least, for the first month or so -- on rounding this thing out."
He is competing against "Beat Box Guitar" by Adrian Belew, "Birds Of Prey" by Stewart Copeland, "Lotus Feet" by Steve Vai, and "69 Freedom Special" by Les Paul & Friends.
