Metallica frontman contributes to Dimebag memorial
Metallica frontman James Hetfield is among the many artists who have contributed hand-painted guitars to "Six String Masterpieces," an art tribute to slain Pantera and Damageplan guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. The show debuted in Anaheim, California last month at the National Association of Music Merchandisers (NAMM) conference and is now touring the U.S.Other musicians who have contributed a total of 50 hand-painted instruments to the exhibit include members of Korn, Slipknot, Rob Zombie's band, Linkin Park, Mudvayne and Disturbed.
Photos of the guitars can be seen at DeanGuitars.com. All 50 will be auctioned off at the end of the tour, with proceeds going to a foundation dedicated to furthering music education.
In other news, the self-titled album from Rebel Meets Rebel, a project featuring Abbott, his brother and bandmate Vinnie Paul, Pantera bassist Rex Brown and "outlaw" country singer David Allan Coe, has had its release pushed back from early April to May 2nd. The CD was recorded over a four-year period before Abbott's death in December of 2004.
Dimevision -- Vol. 1: That's The Fun I Have, a tribute DVD to Dime, has also had its release moved to May 2nd. Both the CD and DVD will be issued through Big Vin, the new label established by Vinnie Paul.
