U2 guitarist still on a high for new album
U2 is one of rock's leading Grammy Award nominees with five nominations as the group heads to the ceremony on Wednesday, February 8th in Los Angeles. The top nomination, of course, is Album Of The Year for 2004's How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, which was released after the deadline for the 2005 Grammys. Guitarist The Edge told us that he remains very pleased with what the band accomplished on the album: "I don't think my analysis at the time when we released it was far off, which was I felt our most consistent record ever. This album from the beginning to the end, I think, is completely, consistently strong, and I'm really proud of that aspect." U2's other nominations include Song Of The Year and Best Rock Performance By a Duo or Group with Vocal for "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own," Best Rock Album for ...Atomic Bomb, and Best Rock Song for "City Of Blinding Lights." ...Atomic Bomb producer Steve Lillywhite is nominated in the Producer of The Year category.
"Vertigo," the first single from ...Atomic Bomb, won two Grammys at last year's ceremony.
The Irish band will join Mary J. Blige on Wednesday for a version of the classic, "One," which the two collaborated on for Blige's latest album.
U2 return to the road on Sunday (February 12th) in Monterrey, Mexico. Dates are also scheduled for South America, New Zealand, Australia, and Japan, with one U.S. show in Hawaii on April 8th.
