Aerosmith frontman to undergo surgery
Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler will have an operation on his vocal chords this week, forcing the classic rock legends to cancel the final 12 dates on their North American tour. The band have been on the road since October and have already scrapped eight shows in the past two and a half weeks. The group's spokeswoman said Tyler, who turns 58 on Sunday, will be unable to sing for two to three months following the operation.
She said he was "doing fine" but declined to reveal further details of the singer's ailment. "Despite Aerosmith's desire to keep the tour going as long as possible, Tyler's doctors advised him not to continue performing to give his voice time to recover," she said.
The band have no future plans for recording or touring, she added.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have been on the road since last October, when they released the live CD/DVD "Rockin' The Joint."
