Carlos Santana honoured for charity work
Carlos Santana and his wife Deborah will be honored at the 3rd Annual Tequio Awards on Wednesday, March 1st, for their charitable work. The Santanas are being recognized for their Milagro Foundation, which they started in 1998 to provide health care and educational and arts resources to underprivileged children. The event, which is being held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, will also feature a live performance by Los Lobos.Carlos Santana told us that he doesn't want to just entertain people, he wants to uplift them: "We want to touch people. You know, a lot of focus is, today, is on entertainment and illusion, and there's very little focus on heart values, 'cause that's the most important thing. It is to touch people -- not to entertain, or head trip, or any kind of trip like that. It's just to touch people, and hopefully, they can learn to touch themselves and somebody else, too. Positive vibration begets positive vibration."
The Tequio Awards are presented by California Rural Legal Assistance, Inc., the 40-year-old tax-exempt organization that fights for farm workers and poor people in rural areas of California.
