Metallica to induct Black Sabbath
Metallica will induct Black Sabbath into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Monday night (March 13th) at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. The band announced its participation through a message on its web site, saying, "So there we are, hanging out at HQ getting ready for our first visit to South Africa, and a call comes in wondering if we can leave a few days early and stop by New York to induct a bunch of guys from Birmingham, England - they're called Black Sabbath, you might've heard of them - into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It took us all of three-quarters of a second to say 'Fuck yeah!'"Metallica will also perform two Sabbath songs at the ceremony, although it has not been determined which ones the band will tackle.
The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be taped and broadcast by VH1 on March 21st.
Following the Hall of Fame ceremony, Metallica will head to South Africa for three shows, the band's first appearance in that country. The group will play some European and Japanese festivals this summer and will enter the studio shortly with producer Rick Rubin to begin working on its ninth studio album.
